Introduction

The Alpha’s Heirs

The world was a dream brought to life. The great wizard, Thurin the Good, created it bountifully rich and idyllic, and sustained by his incantations.
He set mankind and animals in their places and gave them all a common language. Animals were separated into two classes, the higher and the lower. Higher animals received intelligence and self-awareness, the ability to walk upright, and were commanded to shepherd the lower. Like Man, they became herders, farmers, smiths, and shopkeepers.
Then an evil necromancer, Darius the Dark, came into the world and observed the beauty of Thurin’s creation. Because of his bitterness and hatred, he set about to destroy all Thurin had made. Through lies, the Evil One filled the hearts and minds of creation, Man and animal alike, with greed, envy, jealousy, and hatred. Creatures began to kill each other and wars broke out across the world.  No great incantations were required, only whispers in the ear.
In the final battle, Thurin defeated Darius in a great wizards’ duel. The necromancer and his minions were imprisoned in caverns deep below the surface of the world.
But the Evil One had done much damage. Most of the world was destroyed, due to the violence of the war. And so, Thurin rebuilt his creation and started time again. That point in time would be called the Time of Changing.
Soon after the necromancer’s imprisonment, a prophecy was given:

With the aging of the stars,
Evil tests his prison bars.
Greed and avarice return,
Across the world, fires burn.
Tales of battles far and near
Fill all creatures’ hearts with fear.
Though animals and men unite,
This war will not be won by might.
In those days, small heroes rise
To rob the Evil of his prize.
Thurin’s creatures, great and small
Must all prepare to heed the call.

And so we begin our story with two among many, who would fulfill this prophecy ...
