Whats up in Middle East?

Folks everywhere are asking that question. Should we be concerned? Should we be worried? Here in America with hundreds of terrorists flooding our open border, should we be afraid? Are we headed for WW3? The answer is yes, and no. And it’s not a simple answer. A good history book can shine some light into the darkness. And since the Middle East turmoil is religious in nature, the best place to search for that history was written back when it all started; the Old Testament of the Bible. Genesis 25 shows it all began over four thousand years ago with the birth of Esau and Jacob, Issac’s sons, Abraham’s grandsons. Jacob and Esau were twins. Esau was born first, and should have received the birthright. But one day Esau was out hunting. He came back home hungry and found Jacob cooking a vegetable stew. Colonel Lewis examined the Seattle-bound vessel through the helo’s belly camera. Hidden below among two thousand containers, the timer on a nuclear bomb counted down. Proof? Lewis had none. Rumors? Plenty. “Captain. Stand to. You have a bomb aboard your vessel.” “Ridiculous,” the Captain replied in a Middle Eastern accent. “I can’t stop in the middle of the Pacific. I have perishables on board.” “There are one million “perishables” at your destination. Cut your engines, or be sunk.” Radiation detectors confirmed Lewis’ suspicion. Coast Guard cutters retrieved the escapees. The torpedo scored a direct hit. Sea water stopped the timer.

The road I drove was seldom used. The bag in the center of the lane between the tire tracks, unexpected. Wait- did the trash just move? I stopped the car to investigate. As I opened the bag, a black nose popped out, followed by two sparkling puppy eyes. Some monster dumped a fluff ball. I took the pup home to a house full of love, a monster defeated, an aborted life saved. I buried my little buddy today, after fifteen years of companionship, love, and sloppy doggie kisses. I’ll miss him. And I’ll be forever thankful for that lonely road.

Are Your Animal Characters Alive?

Writers, are you using animals of any kind in your fantasy stories? Are they anthropomorphic– animals with human characteristics? Or are they humans that have animal characteristics, such as werewolves or enchanted humans? If so, these animal characteristics need to be believable. You must bring them to life. Animal life, fauna, fall into three basic types. There are herbivores, animals that eat plants, carnivores that eat meat, and omnivores that eat both meat and plants. Not only are their eating habits different, but their character, life style and personalities are different. In order to make an animal character real, you need to get under its skin and into its head. Think as it would think, feel and react as it would under different situations. For example, canines (carnivores) live by their noses. That is why a canine socializes by “sniffing.” Does your wolf character smell an enemy, or does he see that enemy? “Where does milk come from?” The farmer asked our first grade class on a field trip. Mostly suburban kids, I was the only farm kid. Shy and unassertive, I hid behind the group. "From a factory?" One asked. The cow stood munching hay. The farmer, with his bucket, began to milk her. Snickers from the crowd. "Ick!" “Does anyone want to try?” My buddy pointed at me. “He knows how–” The farmer handed me the bucket. At six, my hands were small. So was the cow. God’s perfect factory. “Knock, knock!” The unexpected voice from behind made me jump. Turning from my writing desk I noticed a woman I’d never seen before, standing in the doorway of my office. It was the last thing I expected. My cabin was one of only two houses on the rural cul-de-sac; both houses backed up against a lake. The other house appeared rather run down. The Town Clock

No one expected such a finely built clock to die. But upon its death, no one cared. For one hundred years the clock stood on the corner in front of the jewelry store, faithful to keep the town on time. Two bright white faces with long, slender, finger-like black hands could be seen from either direction along Main Street. A lumber baron built the town he named Firgrove and gave the clock as a gift to honor the town’s official founding. The community rejoiced and named the timepiece “Lloyd’s Clock,” after the benefactor. Out of respect for the gift, townspeople built a cement pedestal to raise the clock̵

My Bio

I am 72 years old and a widower retired from the ministry and partly retired from the art industry. Fan and collector of animated movies (over 300!) as well as a large collection of cartoons. I especially like Warner Brothers, and Jay Ward's cartoons.

Experienced painter of still life rocks and "happy little trees" next to a creek. Free-lance Photographer. Partly retired, and taking the time to do what I've always wanted to do; write, write, write.

I am an author and currently compiling a series of Young Teen Anthromorphic fantasy novels. (Think, Brian Jacques and C.S. Lewis). Also, a YA Sci-Fi novel reminiscent of Heinlein's Starship Troopers.

I play jazz tenor sax and am a member of a community concert band and a swing band, hence the name "LipsterLeo".

My primary language is English, but I speak high school German, a little Thai, some Korean, a bit of pigin Vietnamese, a smattering of French, and I am studying Spanish. I can be fluently misunderstood in seven foreign languages, including English and Texan.

AI is fun to play with. But it will never produce a masterpiece. No Michelangelo's David. No Mona Lisa. No Blue Boy by Gainsborough. Literature? No Moby Dick. No Tale of Two Cities. No Shakespeare sonnets. No Hobbit. Because AI uses a myriad of samples from across the web, you will only get average output. Even if you are trying for the Mona Lisa, someone has already created it. It may be "pretty," but it will only be average. AI has no imagination. That's reserved for humans.
